Arctic Blast, Winter Storm to Slam Northwest Ohio

Written by on January 22, 2026

A surge of Arctic air and a powerful winter storm are expected to bring dangerous cold and heavy snow to northwest Ohio this weekend, including Lucas and Wood counties.

The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory for Friday into early Saturday, with wind chills as low as 15 degrees below zero possible. Highs Friday are only expected to reach the single digits, with lows dropping below zero Friday night.

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Saturday evening through Monday morning for much of northwest Ohio as a larger storm system tracks across the eastern United States. Forecasters say over 6 inches of snow is possible across the region, with the heaviest snow likely on Sunday. Travel could become very difficult Saturday night through Sunday night, and hazardous road conditions may affect the Monday morning commute.

Residents are urged to monitor updated forecasts, consider delaying nonessential travel, and prepare vehicles with winter emergency kits, including blankets, extra clothing, water and a flashlight. People spending time outdoors should dress in layers, wear hats and gloves, and limit exposure to avoid frostbite and hypothermia.
