Post Office Warns of Texting Scam

Written by on December 19, 2024

As millions of holiday cards and packages move through the U.S. Postal Service, scammers are targeting customers with a scheme called “smishing.”

This scam involves fake text messages claiming package delivery issues, urging recipients to click links or provide personal information. USPS officials warn that the agency does not send texts about package problems or request personal data through texts, emails, or calls.

To safely track packages, customers can use USPS services like free text tracking or Informed Delivery, which provides email notifications of scanned mail and packages.

Anyone who falls victim to smishing scams should report it to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service immediately. You can do so by clicking here.
