Proposed Zoning Change Sparks Backlash in Richfield Township

RICHFIELD TWP., Ohio — A proposed zoning change in Richfield Township has sparked strong opposition from local residents, who are concerned about the potential development of a data center on rural land and its impact on family-owned farms.
The zoning change could allow for the development of farmland, a prospect that has raised alarms among families who have lived in the area for generations. Many residents fear that the construction of a data center would disrupt their community’s rural character and heritage.
Trustees addressed the concerns at the Richfield Township Trustees meeting on Monday, June 2, 2025, and clarified that no specific company is currently set to move in. The proposal is a potential option suggested by a real estate company.
A special meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 7 p.m. at the Richfield Township Fire Hall to continue discussions on the proposed zoning change.
