Traffic Pattern Change Coming to Bridge Street & River Road Intersection in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Ohio — Drivers traveling through downtown Grand Rapids will see a traffic pattern change just before the holidays.
The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), working in partnership with the Village of Grand Rapids, will convert the intersection of State Route 65 (River Road) and State Route 295 (Bridge Street) from a two-way stop to a four-way (all-way) stop. The change takes effect Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
According to ODOT, the update is designed to improve safety at the intersection and address a documented crash trend. Officials say the most common accidents at the location involved drivers failing to yield to cross traffic that was not required to stop under the previous configuration.
ODOT maintenance crews will carry out the conversion, and message boards are already posted on each approach to alert motorists of the upcoming change.
Drivers are urged to use extra caution when traveling through the intersection, especially in the days immediately following the change, as traffic patterns adjust.
The four-way stop is expected to create clearer right-of-way rules and reduce the risk of future crashes at one of Grand Rapids’ busiest intersections.
