Cold Weather Forces Cancellation of Wood County Siren Test

Written by on February 5, 2026

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — This month’s test of Wood County’s outdoor warning sirens, scheduled for February 7, has been canceled because of the frigid temperatures expected in the area.

County emergency officials said many of the sirens use electrical motors, which can be damaged if operated in temperatures below 20 degrees Fahrenheit. When moisture inside the system freezes, it can strain the motor and cause costly damage.

Officials emphasized that keeping the equipment in good condition is vital as the region approaches spring’s severe weather season. The test will not be rescheduled, but routine monthly testing is expected to resume in March.
