Helene to Bring Wind & Rain to NW Ohio

Written by on September 27, 2024

Grand Rapids, OH – Northwest Ohio’s forecast for Friday and heading into the weekend will be heavily influenced by Helene, which could cause weather challenges for high school football and other outdoor events this weekend.

Expect cloudy skies with a chance of showers starting late in the afternoon. Winds will be picking up, coming from the northeast at speeds of 13 to 23 mph, with gusts reaching up to 39 mph. Rain will likely increase into the evening, especially between 7 PM and 2 AM, with a 60% chance of precipitation. Rainfall tonight is forecasted to be between a tenth and a quarter of an inch.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Helene, which has weakened significantly after making landfall in Florida, will primarily affect southern and southeastern states. However, its broad system could enhance winds and moisture levels in Northwest Ohio through the weekend, particularly increasing rainfall on Sunday and Monday, with showers likely in the afternoon.

Showers are to be expected this weekend as moisture from Helene remains in the area.
