Grand Rapids, Ohio — The Grand Rapids Historical Society is celebrating 250 years of American history with a new lecture series running from April through October.
The “250th Lecture Series” will feature 13 programs presented in chronological order, covering key moments in U.S. history from the Fallen Timbers era through the Vietnam War. All events will take place in the auditorium of the Historic Grand Rapids Town Hall.
The second program in the series is scheduled for Saturday, May 2 at 7:00 p.m. and will focus on the War of 1812. The presentation will be led by Dr. Bruce Way, a retired professor of history and world languages from the University of Toledo.
Way brings extensive academic and real-world experience to the topic, including teaching 19th-century U.S. history and French, as well as roles at multiple regional colleges and universities. His interest in the War of 1812 has been shaped by years of classroom instruction and volunteer work at River Raisin National Battlefield Park.
Admission to all lectures in the series is free, and organizers encourage the public to attend and take part in commemorating this milestone in American history.
