Grand Rapids Historical Society Announces World War I Lecture

Grand Rapids, Ohio — The Grand Rapids Historical Society will continue its 250th Lecture Series on Saturday, June 13, with a presentation focused on World War I and American historical memory.

The free program will begin at 7 p.m. inside the auditorium of the Historic Grand Rapids Town Hall at Historic Grand Rapids Town Hall.

The lecture will be presented by Dr. Steven Bare, who earned his Ph.D. in American History from the University of Toledo in 2019. Bare’s research centers on how Americans remembered major conflicts from the Civil War through World War I, including reunions, reconciliation efforts, patriotism, and commemorative activities tied to historical memory.

Bare has published historical research through the Tennessee Historical Quarterly and has reviewed scholarly works for several academic journals. He also brings more than 20 years of collegiate teaching experience to the presentation.

The 250th Lecture Series celebrates 250 years of American history with 13 programs running from April through October. Topics span from Fallen Timbers through the Vietnam War.

Admission to all programs is free and open to the public.
